Even better than the first
Enjoyed the first book in this trilogy (The Blackhouse) so much, I was almost reluctant to read the second in case it was disappointing. I just did t see how he could do better.
Happily, I was wrong. Superb writing (again), a fascinating cast of characters, some new, some known, the glorious background of the islands in the north of Scotland with descriptions so alive and so lyrical it makes me want to go there.
And then there is the superb narration of Peter Forbes, who never lets his narration get between you and the book. Who reads in a way that the Gaelic and Scots words roll from his tongue , heightening the pleasure. Loved it. A superb writer paired with a superb narrator – what a magnificent pairing. I’d listen to just about anything from these two.
